A rakshasa (female, rakshasi) is a demon or evil spirit in Hinduism. They are shapechangers and sorcerers, and are notorious for possessing human beings, feeding on human flesh, attacking priests, desecrating graves and interrupting sacrifices. In human form, they are visibly striking because their hands appear to be attached backwards. Many believe Rakshasa to have been particularly wicked humans in previous lives.
