Dr. Nathan Grovemont is a botanist whose primary area of research was how to make plants survive ecological disaster. When his solution - a device that controlled plants and let them move about - was scoffed at and his budget slashed, Grovemont used his technology in a series of bank robberies to acquire more funding.

However, being more of a scientist than a criminal genius, Grovemont was soon arrested, found guilty but insane, and sentenced to Providence Asylum. Last year, he escaped when the White Lady attacked the asylum.

Grovemont apparently then used himself as the subject of his own experiments, becoming the mutant known as the Green Man. After assaulting three women and turning them into the Brides of the Green Man, he was apprehended by Freedom Watch and returned to Providence Asylum.
