OOC: Character Sheets & Behind the Scenes Information

This book contain character sheets for all the members of the Freedom Watch and Warlock Alone, plus any house rules or GM rulings and similar information.

What Would Freedom Watch Do?

This section is an attempt to give people a chance to think about their characters -- their motivations, likes, dislikes, backgrounds, and so forth. Answering is encouraged, but entirely optional. If you have something to say, just add a comment to the appropriate topic. (You can always edit your comment later, if you want to expand or correct something you said previously.)

If you'd like to submit a question for others to answer, that's also encouraged. Just add a child page to this one!

OOC: Freedom City

Readers will note that our world of Freedom City is different in many subtle and not-so-subtle ways from the official world of Freedom City. Most of these changes exist to allow the characters more freedom of development and discovery.

Notable differences:

Freedom City is located on the West Coast.

The Terminus Invasion has not happened, at least not that anyone remembers.

The existence of places like Atlantis, Lemuria and the Hollow Earth is pure speculation to all but a few.

While the world has many superheroes, there are no publically known aliens.

President Bush was not re-elected in 2004. Instead, President Jefferson Anderson was elected.

Superhero changes:

Many superheroes have been rewritten or modified and in some cases removed entirely (e.g., The Atom Family).

Envoy as mentioned in Freedom City 2e does not exist. The Envoy in this game was around before that book was published, and does not wish to change his name.

The Freedom League = The Liberty League, and are located in New York

Doc Metropolis is a lone hero.

Bowman is still leader of the Next Gen.

The Claremont Academy is led by Professor Xenon.

Cassandra is part of the Next Gen.

Doc Tomorrow's genesis has been altered.

Nereid looks closer to Undine in appearance.

Not sure if this is the best place for this stuff, but I think it's a good idea to have session recaps so everyone can see what's up.

I STRONGLY encourage everyone to edit this to add stuff that might have been forgotten, but to use Comments to discuss stuff that is a matter of dispute.

Common Knowledge

The Adults decided it was time for Freedom Watch to go back to Freedom City; the Adults would be staying on Volcano Island.

BlueJay saw a tiki-masked little person, who shot her with a blow gun but missed, and then disappeared. She could find no evidence of it, but she did find a freshly cooked and eaten boar. When others came to help her look for things, they didn't even find a cooked boar, but a rotted boar carcass. Is BlueJay losing her grip on reality?

Brian flew home to get his sister so she could have a tearful reunion with her mom and dad. She will be staying on Volcano Island for the moment.

Envoy talked to Protonik, Bowman and Warlock and made plans for Freedom Watch, the NextGen and the Unnaturals (or at least Vincent) to meet with the Liberty League in two days time to discuss the ongoing developments with the Hollow Earth nazis and Odessa.

Prof X said that Wallflower had managed to identify the particular supergenome for Envoy's Nullify powers, but was not sure whether she had been able to transmit that information to Chernobyl.

Brian's lawyer met him at the door of his family dwelling and informed him that the city's attempt to sue him for damages (and thus his subsequent "swearing off" being a superhero) may have been illegal and unnecessary. A discussion of Brian shedding the Tensile identity ensued.

BlueJay asked Gronk to keep an eye out for the Green Man. To date, he has not been spotted, but people have reported the park talking to them.

Undine informed Tensile that Man Shark, his former lawyer, had been seen in some heretofore unknown caves beneath the island base we had discovered. While investigating the caves, Freedom Watch discovered a submarine. Brian went into the sub, encountered a green guy with red hair (looked like a Rakshasa), and then came out to help the team fight a giant tentacle. After the tentacle was defeated, another one appeared and pulled the submarine away. We were unable to find it. Envoy reported that the superpowers he detected in the area were of an origin that he had never encountered before.

Sanje had a weird vision about Indra that he interpreted as a command to find Indra's lightning staff. Subsequent investigation of a mysterious electrical incident in the Underground caused the team to plan a trip to the UK.

Uncommon Knowledge

Onyx met with someone from the FBI who told her that her uncle was getting paroled and that she would have to be re-relocated in two days, most likely to Michigan. She hasn't yet shared this with the team.

During the fight with the tentacle, Durga had a strange vision of a gigantic eye opening up in darkness.

Tensile also had a strange vision during the fight with the tentacle, seeing a devastatedly ruined city where a man with a glowing green aura - probably Chernobyl - rallied a battalion or more of superpowered beings.

Sanje had a weird dream about invisible hands manipulating, separating and destroying the team. He hasn't shared this with the rest yet.

Onyx and Envoy discussed separating the databases to protect our information on Penumbra from being accessed by the Liberty League.

Onyx started on a physical fitness regimen with help from her father.

Upcoming Timeline

Currently mid-day. Just finished fighting tentacle.

Imminent: Nikolai was about to ask Yvette what was wrong.

Tonight: Travel to England. Curry dinner, plus checking out the museum exhibit where Indra's staff may be hidden.

Tomorrow: Yvette slated to be relocated (currently known only to Yvette).

Two days from now: Meet with the Liberty League; bring Next-Gen and Unnaturals along. Handshakes, share information (maybe over dinner), then we will show them the remains of the Hollow Earth's bases in Hawaii and underground.

Common Knowledge

The session began with all the PCs eating curry in a restaurant in the UK. Yvette then dropped the bombshell about how she is supposed to be relocated. Everyone expressed their own opinion as to how she should handle the situation.

Then we went to the museum to recover Indra's staff. While there, a blonde guy in a black turtleneck gave Yvette the finger. After that, a fight with two Rakshasa broke out. The fight ended when a bolt from above struck the last of the Rakshasas. The janitor had the staff and apparently called the lightning. Envoy tailed him to a closet, but when he opened the door, the janitor was gone. The possibility that he might have been Indra was discussed. Durga, Tensile and Onyx went to India to get permission for Durga to protect the staff. Durga traded the museum a valuable 4,000-year-old bracelet for it. Steel Violet, BlueJay and Envoy remained behind to meet Union Jack and explain the situation. He took a liking to Steel Violet. Envoy invited him to the upcoming meeting with the Liberty League, and he accepted.

Brian's lawyer, Doc Tomorrow, and Professor Xenon were all contacted as regards the fate of Yvette. Professor Xenon suggested that the whole thing was a setup, especially after finding out that contrary to what the FBI agent told Yvette, Tommy One-Suit wasn't paroled from Blackstone -- he escaped. Elaborate planning ensued: It was decided that Marlene would be disguised as Yvette and meet her pickup agent and then Freedom Watch and NextGen would follow invisibly to see what happened.

Switching Yvette and Marlene proved a very smart tactic. The FBI agent used a gas of some kind, trying to knock his charge unconscious. Marlene was unaffected, but pretended to be asleep and paralyzed. The FBI agent, thinking he was free and clear, deviated from the road to the airport and parked in a small clearing instead.

When the FBI agent lifted Yvette, the difference in weight blew Marlene's cover. Pretty much simultaneously, Marlene spotted the Mastermind technology behind the agent's ear. At that point, Charlotta de-cloaked and attacked. Envoy nullified the Mastermind technology, freeing the FBI agent. Marlene and Charlotta attacked each other. When Brian flew in to assist, Charlotta exhibited a heretofore unknown ability to mind control him without the use of any technology. She then used some technological device to remove the rest of Freedom Watch's concealment, with the exception of Envoy.

Next-Gen held their actions until the final player -- Tommy One-Suit -- appeared. Combat remained basically stalemated until Onyx teleported in to attack him, at which point One-Suit grappled her and stole the ankh that she always wears. One-Suit and Charlotta then disappeared, with a cryptic message: "That's one."

The team returned to base to find that the Claremont Academy had been attacked by Chernobyl's team while they were gone. Many of the students had been injured, as well as the Professor. As she escaped, Wallflower waved a disc at the team and taunted, "That's two."

Uncommon Knowledge

Onyx's ankh was left to her by her mother, and allowed her the use of her Gadgets power.

The disc that Wallflower took contained a copy of all Xenon's data, included the genetic breakdown and analysis of Nikolai's ability to nullify things.

With the loss of her ankh, Onyx has started feeling a little strange...

December 16, 2006

This was a strange episode featuring Onyx prominently and strangely lacking Durga...

At the beginning of the game, Freedom Watch had just arrived back at the school and had begun to help out when Onyx began to act strangely. After yelling at them all to shut up, she suddenly disappeared, leaving behind her suit and commlink.

Teleporting, teleporting, teleporting... Onyx vaulted from location to location uncontrollably, hearing voices in her head that she could not block out, nauseous and scared and afraid that she was going crazy. And naked!
Finally, she teleported into a brilliantly lit white tea room. There she met a woman dressed in Victorian garb, who served her tea and cakes and told her that Onyx had removed herself from the time-space continuum. After a brief conversation, she returned her to the continuum.
Onyx reappeared on a remote island, still nude. on the island, she met a strange, withered aboriginal man who spoke only in his native tongue and appeared unable to understand her. After some understandable miscommunication, he got her to follow him, and then made a strange drink that allowed them to talk. The old man sent Onyx on a strange walk that might have been a vision quest.
Along the way, she met a dung beetle/scarab, which joined her, but if it bore any relevance to what was going on, I dunno what it was. These metaphors...
Eventually she came to some water with an island on it, went into the water, failed to drown, and found a pearl inside a clam in a small cave at the bottom of the lake. On the way back up, she met an eel. He was sort of mean and got mad when she suggested stuff like that she could take him to see the world and that he was some kind of metaphor.
When she got onto the island, she met the lizard that was sitting there. At its request, she used her powers to move a cloud so that it could get more sun. The lizard, unsurprisingly, liked sunning itself.
Before the vision quest ended, she saw an image of herself as an older, still naked woman, surrounded by floating tech.

Back in the real world, the other members of Freedom Watch finished rescuing the students from the school.

BlueJay used her healing powers to help the injured children.
Brian, Marlene, Durga and the school faculty moved debris to save those who were trapped and unconscious, including Jules, using Envoy's ability to sense superpowers to locate those who were missing.
Marlene found a tube of lipstick that Wallflower had left behind, and a security tape that showed her and Boytoy causing havoc at the school.
Envoy took charge of the crisis, telling the Professor that he should move the children to Volcano Island and use his mental powers to convince their parents that the children were studying abroad. While Prof. X made preparations, Marlena contacted Marlene Online and began to make arrangements.
Marlene also contacted Doc Tomorrow about the missing Onyx. He was able to locate her on a remote island once she re-entered the time-space continuum. Brian and BlueJay immediately took off on a ten-hour flight to reach her.
Marlene had to overcome Professor Xenon's security system in order to reboot the system and resecure it and bring the systems online. It was, um, difficult to overcome...
Nikolai and Prof. X had words about the fact that Xenon was still withholding information from the team, and that now that our enemies had that information, he might as well tell us.

Ten hours later, Tensile and BlueJay found Onyx.

Onyx appeared to have had an extremely sudden growth spurt, as her costume did not fit her properly.
The old man told them they should help a nearby village with its water problem.
They were able to deduce some long-term, low-tech solutions for the village's drought, and in the meantime flew to a nearby city and retrieved a large stock of bottled water to help the villagers in the meantime.
Onyx, feeling much more herself - well, somewhat, anyway - teleported them all back to the base.

Professor Xenon was able to help Onyx through her confusion by confirming that she was experiencing the manifestation of latent psychic powers. After making sure she was okay, they put her back to work.

Onyx teleported the children and faculty to Volcano Island.
Nikolai bullied some of the troublemakers by showing them how cold it was outside the island.
Marlene and Marlene online made sure that there would be sufficient housing and food for the island's considerable new population.
The parents were informed that they would have guests, the consensus among the team being that, having faked their own deaths without informing their children, the parents had forfeited the right to complain about these sorts of things.
Next-Gen were a little demoralized that we not only had a base, but an island.
Doc Tomorrow told Onyx that the woman she met was probably a Guardian of Time, and probably not human despite her appearance.

Once the children were safe, Professor Xenon finally had a debriefing meeting and came clean with the rest of his information to Freedom Watch and Next-Gen.

Xenon had a network of operatives who were now in danger from Chernobyl. The four hubs were in New York, Hawaii, New Mexico and Chicago. The teams split up duties to check in with each hub and warn them that their covers were blown - Next-Gen to Chicago, Freedom Watch to Hawaii, and Envoy alone to New Mexico, as stealth and undetectability was key, since it was so close to Arizona.
Xenon discussed other recent intel on Chernobyl's super-villain recruits.
- Charlotta.
- Kill-o-watt.
- Wallflower and Boytoy.
- Tommy One-Suit.
- Asphalt, a known supervillain with warrants out for his arrest, a string of outstanding felony charges with superstrength. (This guy also showed up in Tensile's tentacle-induced vision.)
- Unknown woman, wasp-waisted.
- Doc Otaku (may not be strong alliance).
He also discussed potential human pawns of Penumbra.
- General Misha Borodin, from Russia.
- General Striker, the Air Force military who is Captain Thunder's handler.
- Speaker of the House Senator Andrew Forbes.

The teams split up to check on Xenon's agents.

Hawaii checked out okay. Chicago took longer than expected. Cassandra and Nereid stayed behind to finish checking on everyone. New Mexico was missing a member, the Molecular Man, who had disappeared while investigating strange activity on the border between Arizona and Mexico. Nikolai checked it out, and saw armed agents in full suits conducting sweeps of everyone who went in. He was able to detect the presence of super-technology, most likely intended to detect the presence of superpowers. He found the Molecular Man's abandoned car, and near it a trench coat and a notebook. The first few pages of the notebook had been torn out, but he did uncover the imprint of a partial telephone number. Finally, after what felt like months, we went to the Liberty League's space platform to meet with the other superheroes. This was more in the form of a mini-convention. It ROCKED, and we were awesome. Freedom Watch was much more on top of Odessa and the Hollow Earth Project that we realized. Most of our information was new to many of the superheroes we met. Onyx felt sort of uncomfortable with kids around in the Liberty League base when she was essentially wearing a latex outfit. Lots of heroes talked and it was cool. Envoy proved that he isn't always a dick, utilizing everything he learned as an ambassador's son to make connections and gather information. Johnny Rocket inadvertently upset Brian when he talked in front of Tensile about how surprised he was that Brian Tufala never became a hero, especially after the death of his parents. BlueJay and Union Jack reminisced about their grandparents. Captain Thunder is sort of a dick. He and the current Lady Liberty might have a thing going, god only knows why. BlueJay read his lips when he told LL that she would "have to choose a side someday," between her Russian ethnicity and her American nationality. Lady Liberty is still a little nervous at these gatherings. Envoy let her know that he had visited her mother a while back, and put her at ease. Steel Violet's friend Raidin showed up, and made friends with Warlock, glad that there was another native Japanese man present. Tensile and Envoy met the Femme Fatales from Los Angeles - Damselfly, Ms. Medusa, and Kitty Kitty Bang Bang - and Tensile left with Ms. Medusa's phone number and an invitation to come visit. BlueJay got hit on by Behemoth, a huge purple superhero who works with the Liberty League and got his powers by being hit by a radioactive truck. The tour of the Hollow Earth base in Hawaii and the strange underground dimension were smashing successes. Other Stuff Marlene and Onyx networked with other genius geeks Add additional stuff here Just as the tour was wrapping up, word came that Nereid and Cassandra were missing!
